DELUSIONE DALL'ORTO ABUSIVO, SODDISFAZIONE DAI BALCONI

BAD NEWS FROM THE UNAUTHORIZED GARDEN, GOOD NEWS FROM THE BALCONIES

Yesterday I was at my unauthorized garden and was plunged into despair. I didn't like what I found after so many days of incessant rain. On pics 1 and 2 are the Cucumber Half Long Polignano and the Carosello Tarantino I'm cultivating in the garden. They compare unfavourably with the same vines I'm growing on my two balconies (pics 3 and 4).

On the contrary the Carosello Half Long Massafrese, cultivated in the condominial greenery and designated for making fresh seeds, enjoys good health despite the intense rain (pic 5).

To be honest, I must admit that the garden is on the edge of a small wood with a passable, but not excellent, exposure to the sun. Moreover, after raining you can feel a very strong humidity carosellos don't love without the slightest doubt. Instead the condominial carosello has got an excellent exposure to the sun  both in the morning from east and in the afternoon from south-west.

While I was writing this post, it started raining again after a nice sunny afternoon. I can say goodbye to the last carosello vines in the garden. I'll wait for the pleasant weather, thus I'll replace them with the three vines that have been left over. They are starting suffering in their 10 cm diameter pots.

  1. Dear Giuseppe,

Your carosello on the balcony look fantastic. I am sorry that the ones in the garden have not done so well. Perhaps there is something in the soil in the unauthorized garden that is causing such grief for those plants?

I hope your second planting does better!

  2. Dear Jay,

I think the reason is the huge quantity of rain of the last ten days and the extreme humidity of the place. The Mezzo Lungo Massafrese I'm growing in the condominial greenery got lots of water from the sky as well, but it looks fairly good because of a better exposure to the sun than the unauthorized garden and the wall which protects it from northern cool in the night.
On balconies you can control the bad weather, except for hail sometimes.
